In remembrance of Maundy Thursday we made pretzels....home-made pretzels. The pretzel is known for it's unique shape, which was created to resemble a man's hand's praying. Since the day before the crucifixion Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray we remember that time by making this little cute pretzels. They were not the easiest thing to make, but WELL worth it.

Once rolled into a "snake" 24 in. long, and wrapped into the shape of the pretzel, we then put them in a boiling water bath with baking soda in it. It was 10 cups of water and 2/3 cup of baking soda brought to a boil. They boiled for 30 seconds, then came out of the bath.
We then put an egg wash on them, 1 egg beatened with a little water. THEN added sea salt. We didn't have Kosher pretzel salt so we used what we had.
They then baked for 10-15 minutes until golden brown. The oven was on 450 degrees. 
We enjoyed our pretzels for lunch with a few different dipping sauces (peanut butter, ketchup, and mustard). I think the pretzel was just good by itself...and I WILL be making them again, this time with cinnamon and sugar on some!!!!
